Installation

Writefully So is a free desktop application available for macOS and Windows.

Visit the download page or go directly to the releases page to download the latest version for your platform:

  • macOS.dmg installer (Apple Silicon and Intel)
  • Windows.exe installer

Writefully So is currently in beta and not yet code-signed. This means your operating system will show a security warning when you first open the app. This is completely normal for independent software — it does not mean the app is unsafe. It simply means we haven’t yet purchased a signing certificate from Apple or Microsoft.

Once we sign the app, these warnings will go away. In the meantime, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file (Apple Silicon or Intel, depending on your Mac)
  2. Drag Writefully So into your Applications folder
  3. On first launch, macOS will block the app because it’s unsigned. To open it:
    • Right-click (or Control-click) the app in your Applications folder
    • Click Open from the context menu
    • In the dialog that appears, click Open again
    • You only need to do this once — after that, it opens normally
  1. Run the downloaded .exe installer
  2. SmartScreen may show a warning — “Windows protected your PC”:
    • Click More info (the text link, not a button)
    • Then click Run anyway
  3. Follow the installation wizard
  4. Launch Writefully So from the Start menu

When you open Writefully So for the first time, you’ll be greeted with a Workspace Setup wizard. This lets you choose where your projects will be stored on your computer (defaults to your Documents folder).

Once that’s done, you’re ready to create your first project.
