Formatting & Shortcuts

Writefully So supports rich-text formatting through the toolbar and keyboard shortcuts.

Text Formatting

• Bold — Cmd/Ctrl + B
• Italic — Cmd/Ctrl + I
• Underline — Cmd/Ctrl + U
• Strikethrough — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + X
• Highlight — Select text and use the highlight button in the toolbar

Typefaces

Choose a typeface for the manuscript from the font menu in the toolbar. Six are built into Writefully So, so a chapter looks the same on every machine you write on — and on a machine that has never had Writefully So installed before:

• Literata — a contemporary book serif, comfortable for long drafting sessions
• Merriweather — sturdier, with generous spacing for on-screen reading
• Lora — a lighter serif with calligraphic detail
• EB Garamond — a classical old-style face, close to printed literary fiction
• Source Serif 4 — a clean, even serif that stays legible at small sizes
• Courier Prime — a typewriter face, for the traditional screenplay and manuscript look

Your system fonts are listed below these, including Georgia, Times New Roman, Baskerville, Arial and Verdana. The choice applies to the whole manuscript, and is carried into exported PDFs so the page you send out matches the page you drafted.

Set the size from the Size box beside the font menu, and switch between spaced and first-line-indented paragraphs with the indent button.

Block Formatting

• Heading 1 — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 1
• Heading 2 — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 2
• Heading 3 — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 3
• Blockquote — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + B
• Bullet list — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 8
• Ordered list — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 7
• Horizontal rule — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + -

General Shortcuts

• Undo — Cmd/Ctrl + Z
• Redo — Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z
• Find — Cmd/Ctrl + F (opens the search panel)

Tips

• The editor is WYSIWYG — what you see is what you get. There’s no Markdown syntax visible.
• Formatting persists through export, so your DOCX files will retain bold, italic, headings, etc.
• Blockquotes render with a lavender left border for visual distinction.
