Character Presence
Character Presence shows you at a glance which characters appear in which chapters.

What It Shows
Section titled “What It Shows”A grid where:
- Rows represent your characters
- Columns represent your chapters
- Color intensity shows how frequently a character appears in each chapter
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”Character Presence tracks character appearances by detecting character names in your manuscript. When a character’s name appears in a chapter, that chapter’s cell lights up for that character.
Why It’s Useful
Section titled “Why It’s Useful”- Pacing: See if a character disappears for too many chapters
- Balance: Check that your protagonist has consistent presence
- Plot threads: Ensure subplot characters appear at the right points
- Editing: Identify chapters where a character should appear but doesn’t
- Use character names consistently in your writing to get the most accurate presence map
- Review Character Presence during your editing pass to catch pacing issues
- Compare it against your plot outline to verify characters show up where they should
