3D World Builder
The 3D World Builder is a separate world workspace for visualizing terrain and important story places. It does not replace your existing 2D maps. Legacy maps stay in the Maps section, and the 3D world lives in its own builder.
What You Can Build
Section titled “What You Can Build”- Terrain tiles — Add land or ocean squares snapped to a grid so the world can grow in whatever shape your story needs.
- Sculpted terrain — Raise mountains, lower valleys, flatten areas, and adjust brush size for small details or broad regions.
- Painted ground — Paint grass, earth, sand, stone, snow, and water across terrain.
- Landmarks and objects — Place mountains, hills, trees, rocks, people, clustered armies, houses, towers, ruins, bridges, castles, fortresses, villages, and temples.
- Labels — Add readable place, region, or landmark names directly in the world.
- Story pins — Mark important story locations and connect them to characters or World Bible entries.
- Multiple world versions — Keep separate worlds for different regions, eras, or alternate states, then rename or duplicate them as your story changes.
Starting and Managing Worlds
Section titled “Starting and Managing Worlds”Use New for an empty world, Duplicate to branch an existing world into a new version, or Sample to explore a large, fully editable fantasy region with terrain, settlements, labels, people, and story pins already in place.
The world selector switches between every 3D world saved in the project. The delete action can remove the current world or, after an additional confirmation, remove all 3D worlds. These actions never delete your manuscript, World Bible entries, or legacy 2D maps.
Creating Space
Section titled “Creating Space”Use the land and ocean tile tools to expand the map one square at a time. New tiles snap beside existing terrain, so a world can become a long coastline, a cluster of islands, a continent, or a focused local region without choosing a fixed size up front.
Editing the World
Section titled “Editing the World”Most edits happen directly in the 3D view:
- Choose a terrain, object, label, or story pin tool.
- Click the world to place or paint.
- Select an existing object or label to edit it.
- Use the inspector controls to adjust details such as text, color, size, scale, rotation, and position.
The World Workspace header keeps the View controls and the Sculpt, Paint, and Expand menus together in one compact card. Reset the camera or enter full screen from its View section. Press Esc to leave full screen.
Open People in the build menu to place either one person or an Army, represented by a clustered group of soldiers. Armies can be selected, moved, resized, and rotated like other world objects.
Changes save automatically as you work.
When to Use 3D vs. 2D Maps
Section titled “When to Use 3D vs. 2D Maps”Use the 3D World Builder when you want to understand geography, landforms, routes, borders, large landmarks, or the physical layout of a fantasy or historical setting.
Use legacy 2D Maps when you want a flat reference image, an imported map, a floor plan, a city district sketch, or a quick annotated canvas.
Both tools can live in the same project.
